Kim Jong-il, North Korea’s leader, has died. From where we live in Bucheon, a bustling city just outside of Seoul, things are carrying on as normal. Everyone we know is at work, the coffee shops are full, the park has people exercising, a couple of people are flying huge colourful kites, school is still in session, and we’re editing our movies as usual.
From what we’ve read, the South Korean National Security Council/National Assembly are currently discussing the matter and South Korean President (Lee Myung-bak) released a statement asking all South Koreans to “remain calm and focus on their usual business without being shaken by the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il”.
While there is no sense of panic in our city, people are definitely talking and speculating as to what will happen next, along with the rest of the world.
